Dietmar Öfner-Velano, born on 18 May 1957 in Innsbruck, was appointed to the Innsbruck chair in early 2015, joining the university from the University Hospital Salzburg.

He received his surgical training in Innsbruck under Prof. Gschnitzer, Prof. Flora and Prof. Margreiter, and from 2003 to 2009 he served as Deputy to Prof. Margreiter before being appointed to the Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg.
